Petal Patch Quilt
This quilt is pieced with curved templates and is a great pattern for intermediate quilters who are comfortable working with curves. The quilt features a fresh, modern color palette but is easy to customize with colors and fabrics that suit your style.
“I was inspired by the petal shape and creating depth and movement though use of color. The weighted border is distinctly modern, giving the design the feeling of sitting on a canvas. The combination of simple shapes gives the design a modern aesthetic.”
– Heather Black
“While I was piecing this top I realized that the design of the quilt has loads of movement. I decided at that point that busy quilting would only distract from the overall design, so I choose to quilt this project with 1/2" horizontal straight lines.”
– Heather Black

About the Designer
Heather’s passion for quilt design is founded in her past as a landscape oil painter and her desire to be creative. She first tried quilting in 1995 but didn’t catch the quilting bug until 2011 when she designed, pieced and hand quilted her first queen size quilt. Shortly after that she discovered modern quilting and from that point on Heather has been designing and making quilts whenever possible. Her quilts and patterns have been featured in various quilting publications and is an active member in various local guilds included The Modern Quilt Guild. Heather has had a myriad of quilts displayed at international, national and regional quilt shows. Her quilts have hung at International Quilt Festival, AQS QuiltWeek, QuiltCon, MQX, Road to California and many more.
Along with quilting Heather is a single widowed mom of a beautiful girl, CoraJoan, and lives in Spokane, WA. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest and attended college in Pennsylvania. Many of her designs are inspired the landscape in her home state. She maintains a blog at www.quiltachusetts.com and is active on Instragram under @quiltachusetts.
